OAKLAND, CA – Today, the Linked Learning Alliance (LLA) Board of Directors has elected new Board members and members of Councils and Panels to guide and support the Linked Learning field efforts to expand high quality Linked Learning pathways in 2017.

“The Linked Learning Alliance Board of Directors is committed to meeting the rapidly expanding demand for Linked Learning with systems that support high quality Linked Learning,” said David Rattray, Executive Vice President at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Linked Learning Alliance Board of Directors. “The new Linked Learning Certification and Analytics systems incentivize, recognize, and support great Linked Learning practice. These are powerful tools that will help address the skills gap that currently exists.”

New to the Linked Learning Board are State Assemblymember Shirley Weber (D-San Diego), and Phillip Lovell, Vice President of Policy Development and Government Relations for the Alliance for Excellent Education. These new board members bring experience and expertise that will help build and advance Linked Learning in many more communities. The full Board roster is available here.

In addition to the Board of Directors, LLA also receives expert guidance and consultation from expert advisory councils: Council of Chancellors and Presidents, Council of Employers, Council of Superintendents, Council of Capacity Builders, and the Equity Council. Membership for the five councils is available here.

Three affiliated panels established by the LLA provide input and guidance to advance the Linked Learning movement. Those oversight panels include:
The Advocacy Panel, chaired by Darrell Steinberg, City of Sacramento Mayor, that advises the Board of Directors on strategies to advocate for policy recommendations;
The Quality Standards Panel, chaired by JD Hoye, President of NAF, oversees standards for Linked Learning pathway and student certification; and
The Research, Data and Evaluation Panel, chaired by Kathy Booth, Senior Research Associate at WestEd, develops a field research agenda and provides input and oversight for Linked Learning Analytics.

The list of members elected by the Board to serve on the three panels is available here.

Research shows that quality Linked Learning matters. Linked Learning’s power to positively impact student preparation for college and career comes from the close integration of four core components: rigorous academics that prepare students to be admitted to and succeed in college; sequenced high-quality career-technical education; work-based learning that provides exposure to real-world workplaces and reinforces the professional skills needed to thrive in a career; and support services to address individual students’ needs and ensure equity.
