Students from Antelope Valley UHSD, Long Beach USD, Oakland USD, an Oakland-based independent charter district, Porterville USD, and San Bernardino City USD participated in this survey process between April and May 2022. In their responses, students shared open, honest reflections on their experiences in college and career pathways over the past year, their postsecondary aspirations, and their thoughts on proposals included in the California State Budget.

This week, we join the nation in mourning the loss of students and educators in Uvalde, TX. In addition to reflections on the student supports needed to guide young people in navigating these difficult news events, we also share news of the Linked Learning Alliance’s participation in the Gates Foundation Accelerate ED grant program, building student social capital, and job training gaps. Governor Gavin Newsom announced his May revision to the 2022-2023 budget proposal today. The proposal now goes before the legislature which must approve a final 2022-2023 California budget by June 15. In response, the Linked Learning Alliance issued the following statement.

By 2030, there will be an estimated 2.6 million new jobs across the healthcare industry. With diversity and equity a top priority for many healthcare leaders, it is essential that communities build strong pipelines of highly qualified, passionate young people to enter into a wide range of medical and healthcare careers. In Huntington Park, one high school is investing in the infrastructure needed to ensure their young people are ready to join the healthcare workforce.
