Prior to joining the Alliance, Ava first served as an early elementary special education teacher in Los Angeles Unified School District, working closely with United Teachers Los Angeles to push for equity for all students and teachers. After leaving the classroom, Ava completed an education policy fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Boston’s Mauricio Gaston Institute. There, she co-authored a policy brief regarding racial inequity in Boston Public Schools’ exam schools and developed an interactive data visual of all Tier I, II, and III schools in the BPS system.
Ava attended Needham Public Schools before graduating summa cum laude from Boston University with a B.A. in Sociology. Ava received her M.A. in Urban Education Policy and Administration from Loyola Marymount University in 2019.
