2016 Linked Learning Opportunities: How New Federal Education Law Supports Quality Linked Learning

On December 10, 2015, President Barack Obama signed into law the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the bill to replace No Child Left Behind (NCLB). This new law provides greater flexibility to states to continue reforms that align with their recently adopted college- and career-ready standards. For the state of California, which has undergone changes in its own accountability system, ESSA provides an opportunity for school districts implementing Linked Learning pathways to continue to be innovative in their approach to ensure equitable outcomes for all students.
This webinar will provide an overview of the vision for the Linked Learning field over the next five years; highlight the recent recognition of the expansion of Linked Learning by the White House as a next-generation high school initiative; discuss how the new federal law can specifically support the implementation of high quality Linked Learning in California; and highlight specific strategies that state and district leaders can use with the new federal policy to support, sustain, and advance the work of ensuring that all of California’s students are truly college and career ready upon graduating from high school.
Panelists will also address questions submitted by viewers from across the nation.
