California Career Technical Education Incentive Grant

Funded through the Budget Act of 2015, the Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG) provides $900 million over a three-year period for CTE programs geared toward a successful transition to postsecondary education and careers. The CTEIG reflects the critical need for high quality, sustainable career technical education programs that prepare students for success in the California labor market – earning a living wage in a fulfilling job with opportunity for advancement. For most students, this will necessarily require some postsecondary education or training.

The Career Technical Education Incentive Grant (CTEIG) represents a significant investment by the Governor in supporting high-quality career technical education programs that are both college- and career-preparatory and sustainable beyond the life of the grant.

Applicants should see the CTEIG not only as a resource to maintain current programs, but as a resource to accelerate and advance impact on student success, investing funds in a coherent and coordinated way that builds capacity and is centered on equitable student readiness for college and career success. Informed by the CA Department of Education’s High-Quality CTE Program Self Review Tool, the priorities proposed below are intended to support program quality, catalyze postsecondary and industry partnerships, and improve student outcomes through investments that can have a long-term payout for all involved.
